Is an Internet business right for you?
Make money on-line March 29th, 2007Conventional Wisdom says, everyone should start an Internet business. Readers might actually say that it’s something that I myself recommend.
If you are not already very comfortable with the Internet, then you shouldn’t jump into the water just because everyone else is. There are plenty of other business ideas out there that you can do from home.
Are on-line businesses good ideas? When evaluating any business proposition, even Internet business propositions, you need to ask yourself if it’s something you are capable of succeeding at.
Internet business aren’t for everyone.
Sure, I posted something about how the Internet is a good place to be, and there are many reasons why working in that area is a good idea. However, it is not for everyone. Mainly, you need a basic level of technical competence to do well here.
Other people wil tell you that it’s something you can learn quickly. However, there are enough business ideas out there that you already can do on your own, that you do not have to go out of your way to learn all the intricacies of the Internet. It’s a very dangerous place.
Self-education can frustrate and destroy your confidence.
However, all hope isn’t lost if you really want to start an Internet business. You can of course learn it on your own. It takes time, and can be very frustrating. The Internet is a great and supportive place if you do want to learn all about it.
This route isn’t for everyone though. At the beginning, it’s important that you maintain momentum. The problems with learning an entirely new skill like web programming can destroy that all important momentum, and worse, your own self-confidence.
You may need to outsource.
Another great thing about the Internet is that you can always hire someone to do the work for you. Places like Elance.com and Findacoder.com allow you to hire programmers from all around the world at reasonable prices.
Not all on-line businesses are technical.
There are a lot of Internet business out there which do not require very many technical skills. Taking on-line surveys or selling goods through eBay are two that come immediately to mind. I’ll be going over these in the coming days.
