When I first started blogging, I tried to commit to myself one new post each day. I didn’t think it through. For the first week, I had no problem maintaining my momentum. But then, as they always do, things came up. I’d skip a day and tell myself that I could write two the next. But then, something would happen that next day too, and so on. Pretty soon, there would be three or five day gaps between posts, and I would be depressed about my failure to meet my commitment to myself.

And then I got smarter.

I spend a day or two each week to write enough posts to last me a week. I schedule them in advance so that I don’t have to worry about whether or not I have posts going up today, tomorrow or for the next week. During the next five days, I am at liberty to think about what other things I should be writing about.

So, if you’re starting a blog, write everything in advance, and schedule them to post regularly. I’m pretty sure that most of the professionals do the same thing.
