On my dresser table, I have a little piggy bank. He’s cute, small and always hungry in the way that pig’s always are. And I try to feed him as much as possible. Every evening when I come home, I feed him $5 and whatever loose pocket change I have.

This is my laptop savings bank. I figure, in one year, I will have saved at least $1800. I can get a pretty good laptop for that amount of money, and all in all it will only cost me $5 a day.

I think the biggest problem people have with saving is that if you save with no purpose, you feel like you’re wasting it. At least, with an impulse purchase, you have something in your hands. You are holding money that you’ve struggled and slaved for, and for what? To let it sit in one place. You need a plan for that money.

And my piggy is as good a plan as any other.
