Well, first of all, thanks for visiting my personal finance tips blog.

You’re probably wondering why I’ve named this blog “Wallet Rehab.” Truth of the matter is, a lot of the better, catchier names for personal finance blogs have already been taken. Here are two of the reasons behind my name. If one doesn’t apply to you, then look towards the other. Truthfully though, the content of my posts should speak volumes more than the name of the blog.

I’ve been watching a lot of “The Wire” lately, and thoughts of drug rehab have weighed heavily on my mind.

And I realized that I’m an addict in my own way. Instead of abusing drugs, I abuse my wallet and my bank account. You can abuse anything if you put your mind to it, and once you start, the stopping seems a long ways away. I’ve made a lot of mistakes with my personal finances in my life. Maybe someday I’ll detail them here. But I’ve grown past that, I like to think that I’ve grown past that. I’ve learned a lot of lessons, but like any good recovering addict, all it takes is one bad day to turn me around. So I’m starting this blog to help me stay clean, and to clean up any of you other addicts out there.

I used to invest in real estate. I would buy unloved houses, rehab them and sell them retail. In a sense, what we’re doing here is rehabbing your wallet. We’re going to put in that gorgeous crown-molding you’ve always wanted. We’re going to expand your wallet so it can accomodate more money, and maybe get rid of some of those unsightly credit cards. Let’s make your wallet into the talk of ownership.

With your wallet, there should be some serious pride of ownership.

They say that if you can teach something, you learn it twice. Having been a teacher and corporate trainer, I’ve unwittingly learned more about Enterprise Resource Planning and English Grammar than I’ve ever wanted. (I realize by admitting this, that I’m opening myself up to a lot of backseat editors.)

Bloggers do live vicariously, don’t they?

More importantly, I want to show you how to:

  • Save more money - Squirrel away those nuts for rainy days
  • Spend less money - Use the Internet to reduce your spending and budgeting
  • Make more money - Home-based businesses opportunities, both on-line and off

Notice a pattern here? Sure, money won’t make you happy, but it will make your life easier. And I’d much rather have an easier life than a difficult one.

Furthermore, I’m going to embark on my own Internet home business and chronicle the ups and downs here for your enjoyment, edification and mockery. Hopefully, you too will have your own Internet home-based business, or just a home-based business, and we will learn and grow together.

What I won’t be talking about is investment advice. I want to focus on things that you can do right now, this minute, this hour, today, or this week. Investing is less about acting and more about believing in other people’s actions. Starting quickly is the only way to fight procrastination.

So, welcome to my blog. Let’s make our wallets beautiful and bountiful.
