Some of you have asked me privately, why do I keep posting up the free stuff links? For some people, it’s pretty obvious that there are tons of free samples available on the Internet. You just have to google for them.

So why do I post free stuff here?

As a young lad in upstate New York, I once found a book called “Free Stuff for Kids.” It was a book which listed various things that I could send for and get back for the price of a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE). Response rates were always spotty. My brother would send away for the same stuff. Sometimes his stuff would come; other times mine would, but rarely would both of ours come. I realize now that a lot of those offers were one per household, but back then, all I was focused on was how unfair it was that my brother got the cool stuff.

The coolest thing I got was a package of dinosaur erasers.

Free stuff is fun!

I remember running to the mailbox each day hoping for something cool in the mail. Every day could have been, was almost, not quite, possibly my birthday. Each day, I ran to the mailbox hoping that there was a strange package waiting for me. Maybe that’s why I pay such attention to it now.

You do realize your mailman can deliver more than just bills, right?

Free stuff makes life interesting.

It is my humble wish that people use free stuff to make their lives more interesting.

The key to my saving is to not vary my habits very much. Like my diet, I try to use the same things over again because I know their prices and how to make the most of them. I can spot a good deal when I see them, just like how I can tell when something has more calories than its worth, I know when I am overpaying for my Crest Whitening Toothpaste.

Whenever I try something new, I always end up spending too much for a product I won’t use often.

With free samples, I don’t have that problem.

Choice and Variety are expensive.

I envision my free stuff pages are for those people who don’t have a lot of extra money, but still want to be adventurous. They want to try different things and have some variety, for as little as possible. It’s a very basic truth, the less money you have, the less variety you can afford. I used to find that at the end of the month, there was not much left over to experiment with the thousands of consumer products out there.

Almost every day can be my birthday, your birthday and for free.

Sure, you probably can’t afford to buy these new/snazzy products yourself, but getting them in the mail is a nice feeling.
