Why choose an Internet business?
Make money on-line May 25th, 2007The current popular trend in home-based business is to start an on-line or Internet business. People throw around the terms “Internet business” and “on-line business” in much the same way they threw “franchise” in the late 1980s. Back then, everyone knew someone who was opening a fast food restaurant, carpet cleaning service or juice shop.
But now, the new belle of the ball is the Internet. Everyone says that you should start an Internet business without ever truly understanding the reasoning behind it. It is just assumed that you already know. You are embarrassed into pretending that you know and understand.
The Internet is about leverage.
The Internet is about that powerful force called leverage. It is this force that magnifies the smallest nudges into becoming the most powerful of earthquakes. It’s about getting the biggest bang for your buck. And as a home-based entrepreneur, you will need all the help you can get. The Internet will enable you to compete on even ground with the largest of companies.
You will be David to their Goliath. The Internet will be your sling.
There are no limits to leveraging knowledge.
In the physical, non-digital world, you’re often limited by access to resources. The most basic of these is money, but can also include human capital, real estate and inventory. With an Internet business, the only truly necessary piece equipment is your computer. While on the Internet and working at your desk, you will be able to create or find your inventory, market your product and sell it.
It doesn’t take money to make money on the Internet.
Conventional Wisdom says that it takes money to make money. As frugal entrepreneurs though, we’re looking to minimize our initial investment. We want to make money, and not lose it. The less we risk, the better we feel about the opportunity.
On the Internet, there are so many free resources available that even $10 seems like a fortune. You can find products for free. You can advertise for free, and fulfill your orders for a fraction of the total order.
Compare that to the physical world. According to BizBuySell.com, a florist shop in Arkansas will cost you $89,000. And according to the Sunbelt Network, a coffee shop in Jacksonville, Florida will cost you $25,000.
If you’re smart, the Internet will allow you to transform your $10 into a business as profitable as any traditional business.
The world is your market.
Being successful in business means talking to people. You will need customers, clients and suppliers. This is true of any business. Your ability to become successful will rest largely on your ability to connect with people. The more people you can reach, the more successful you will become. This simple and powerful concept holds true for any business.
The Internet makes communicating with many people easy and painless.
Back in the day, a traveling salesman would come to a town and set up in the town square. He would lounge in front of his car or stand on their soapbox and sell his products to the local townsfolk. The louder his voice was, the more he would be able to sell. A loud voice allowed him them to reach more people, and oftentimes drown out neighboring competitors. As technology advanced, the salesman turned to newspapers, where the biggest, most striking advertisments created results. On radio, it was the catchiest jingle, and on TV, it was the sexiest, raciest or funniest commercial.
But now on the Internet, you can reach everyone in the world with a well written advertisement. A well-designed search engine, PPC or e-mail campaign will enable you to compete on even footing with almost any large company in the world.
Well, except maybe Coca-cola. Those guys have been doing this stuff for years, and their product is delightfully delicious. Sinfully so.
